A trip to the Mekong Delta is all about experiencing the rural and river life of the Mekong inhabitants - beautiful countryside on the banks of the Mekong River, the floating markets, the rice fields and tropical fruit orchards.

The region is easily accessible from Saigon, and it is possible to do a multi-day tour of the region from Saigon - which we definitely don't recommend. Instead, take a few days and base yourself in the region - there is a beautiful country retreat right on the banks of the Mekong that we love to stay at - and explore the area at your own leisurely pace, by bicycle, boat and on foot.

What to see, what to do?
Visit the floating markets by boat, cycle around the riverways, sample the locally grown fruits, check out the family run food producing "factories" - coconut candy, rice wine, rice popcorn, with opportunities to try and buy the produce. Take cycle rides along the little paths crisscrossing the Mekong backwaters and villages, looking at the local agriculture and way of life of the people of the delta, stopping off for a drink at a countryside café or taking a local river ferry.

When To Come:
December - March
April, November
May - October More info
Although a lot of rain falls during the rainy season months - June and July are particularly wet, but as usual in South Vietnam you'll generally get rain in the afternoons, and sunshine and blue sky for much of the rest of the day!

We Love:
Cycle rides along the smallest tracks that we can find by the waterways, getting lost, and stuffing our faces with Longan!
